Linger There

What words linger there buried underneath the rubble of a soul

a soul crushed, pressed down

by the immense weight of words

spoken in anger, in spite, in fear

What words linger there

when what escapes are groans

whimpers, whispers, and wishes

while still trapped within remain

true words of despair, sorrow, and pain

What words linger there

yet find no ear to hear

no heart to hold, to care

so lost they remain, still contained

all their words still trapped in pain

What words linger there

in the heart of one who has been heard

set free, at peace, breathing

free now to be, free to begin to see

others' words still lingering there
